July 21st, 2009 by Francis Yates Leave a reply »

So the 2009 Holiday has been booked, and its not in 2009! We have decided to give the 2009 Cruise a miss, to take up a new cruise that Carnival will be offering to Alaska, sailing from Seattle

We will be setting sail from Seattle, Washington aboard the Carnival Spirit. The Carnival Spirit is one of the few boats in the Carnival Fleat that was not built in Italy, and was actually built Helsinki, Finland. She was the first of the Spirit class, which includes the Carnival Pride and Carnival Legend. Carnival Spirit is not the largest of the Carnival fleet, coming in at a mere 85,900 Gross Tons.

So we will be leaving on the 11th of May 2009 and sailing up the Tracy Arm Fjord and up into Alaska. 7 Days later, we will be back in Seattle!

Carnival Spirit Itinerary

The Tracy Arm area covers 653,179 acres and consists of two deep and narrow fjords: Tracy Arm and Endicott Arm. Both fjords are over 30 miles (48 km) long and one-fifth of their area is covered in ice. During the summer, the fjord has considerable floating ice ranging from the size of a three-story building to hand-size pieces. During the most recent glaciated period, this fjord filled with active glaciers.
